How to Potty Train a Toddler

Potty Training a Toddler can be a nightmare if you don’t take the right steps! The very first step is letting your child be ready. If they’re not ready then your not going to get anywhere. Make sure that they have some bladder control. You can tell if they have bladder control by examining their diaper. If they don’t dirty their diaper but every 2 or more hours then they have some bladder control! Also before potty training, make sure they can comprehend basic instructions. If you can ask your child to do something and they follow your directions then they are ready!

A week before you start potty training make sure that everytime you change their diaper you let them understand why. Tell them Oh No! You peed! or Yucky! You pooped in your diaper! You do this so that your child can recognize what your talking about when you tell them Ok! It’s time to pee in the potty!

You can also buy a potty toy! This toy can only be played with while using the potty (if your child has problems sitting still) or as a reward after they use the potty! You can also buy a potty training doll so that your child can have a visual illustration of what to do in the potty.

Make sure to remind your toddler regularly that they need to use the potty if they have to pee and at every set time make them sit down on the potty and try. Consistency is extremly important thing to remember while potty training your toddler. The MOST VITAL thing to remember is to reward your child and make potty training EXCITING! Make it a fun experience for your toddler and he or she will be more willing to potty for you instead of clash against you. When you reward your child when they use the potty they will see it as a good thing and be more willing to do use the potty when they need to!

Stick to these things and your child will be potty trained before you know it!
